About Us
Our History
In 1958, Dr. Verne Petrie, a recent graduate Ohio State University School of Optometry, started practicing optometry in the Portage Lakes area of Akron, Ohio. His practice grew steadily over the years due to the fact that he had a wonderful, engaging personality combined with an astute knowledge of his craft. Dr. Petrie was a pioneer in the Akron area in the study of children’s eye therapy. He took the principles of this therapy and improved the visual quality of countless children in their formative years.
Dr. Peter Schmid and Dr. Susie Kim purchased the practice in 2004. Their dedication to the same principles of excellent patient care and state of the art technology continue the same “good, old fashioned” care offered by Dr. Petrie all those years ago.

Nearsighted individuals typically have problems seeing well at a distance and are forced to wear glasses or contact lenses. The nearsighted eye is usually longer than a normal eye, and its ctornea may also be steeper.
